Why The Cow?

SO MANY PEOPLE ASK US "WHY THE COW?"

The first thing to know is that, according to Electoral Department of Saint Lucia Regulations, a party or candidate must choose a symbol from the list offered (shown here).

On that list, all the choices are inanimate objects, with the exception of three - a cock, a hand and a cow.

Since many past government policies idolised things and objects over people and the environment, we wanted a live symbol. Something that would represent nature, life and food security. In a choice between these two, we chose the cow.

The Green party was started in Germany in the 90’s as a Peace movement and it became a worldwide Environmental and Social Justice movement.

With gender equality being an important part of this, the fact that our symbol is also a female represents nicely.

In addition, the cow is a peaceful animal which benefits agriculture (a pillar of the National Green Party).

And finally, the Cow also produces organic fertilizer, as well as food and other products.
